Graphical Settings

From Tanki Online Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

The game settings includes a menu through which you can turn on / off various graphical effects to improve the quality of imagery and/or increase FPS. All of the graphical settings (except Mip-Mapping and Skybox) are only available if the video card installed on your computer supports hardware acceleration (check here for information on enabling hardware acceleration). Hardware acceleration is supported by the majority of modern video cards (video cards released after 2006), and is usually enabled by default. Keep in mind that settings which require hardware acceleration may negatively affect your FPS. Turning off these graphical settings generally increases FPS, however it will also deteriorate the quality of images and graphics in the game. Final performance however, also will depend largely on the method used to access the game.

All graphical settings can be accessed from Graphics menu in the Settings panel. Access Settings Settings icon.jpg by clicking on this button to the top-right of the game screen.
Read on below for the various graphics settings in the game and their impact on performance.

Contents

Skybox

Settings Skybox.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables the Skybox (or simply the sky / background for the map).
Impact on game performance: Low.

Mip-Mapping

Settings Mip Mapping.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables Mip-Mapping. Mip-Mapping is a method of texturing that uses multiple copies of the same texture with different levels of detail. It means that the level of details of textures will change depending on the distance from the camera. The technique allows to get rid of "noise" in remote objects and significantly improves rendering performance.
Impact on game performance: Low.

Dynamic Shadows

Settings Dynamic shadows.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables the shadows cast by objects on the map (tanks, buildings, trees, etc). Refer to Dynamic Shadows for more information.
Impact on game performance: High.

Note: This setting can be switched on only with Flash player hardware acceleration.

Deep Shadows

Settings Deep Shadow.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables Deep shadows (SSAO). It adds volume to the picture, underlining the unevenness of the relief, corners between walls and any surface drops.
Impact on game performance: Very High.

Note: This setting can be switched on only with Flash player hardware acceleration.

Fog

Settings fog.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables fog above the map.
Impact on game performance: Extremely Low.

Note: This setting can be switched on only with Flash player hardware acceleration.

Shadow under your Tank

Settings shadow under tank.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables the shadow underneath your tank.
Impact on game performance: Low.

Note: This setting can be switched on only with Flash player hardware acceleration.

Soft Particles

Settings Soft particles.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables Soft Particles. This technology improves the displayed effects. This is achieved by smoothing the edges of the effect itself. For example, when a tank is driving through the bushes and trees, visually it looks a lot "softer". Refer here for more information.
Impact on game performance: Medium.

Dust

Settings Dust.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables the dust under your tank which appears when stopping, starting, or moving your tank.
Impact on game performance: Low.

Note: This setting can be switched on only with Flash player hardware acceleration.

Anti-Aliasing

Settings Antialaising.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables antialiasing. Antialiasing makes the edges of objects smoother, turning it off may make objects have slightly "jagged" edges.
Impact on game performance: Medium.

Note: This setting can be switched on only with Flash player hardware acceleration.

Dynamic Lighting

Settings Dynamic lighting.jpg

What does this setting do? Enables or disables dynamic lighting. Dynamic lighting turns on lights around the borders of various objects on the map, such as flags, shots, control points, etc.
Impact on game performance: Medium - High.
