What is FPS?

FPS indicator in battles

FPS (frames per second) is the rate at which your computer produces unique images.
The higher the FPS the more smoothly the game runs.
The 11th version of Flash brought the support of hardware acceleration. Enabling hardware acceleration in Flash significantly increases the average FPS.

When playing Tanki Online, FPS is displayed at the bottom right corner of the screen. You can always disable it by entering the Settings menu and unchecking a box called "Show FPS and ping".

Attention! Some people believe that FPS rate may be affected by the speed of the Internet connection or server workload. This is not true. FPS is generally affected by your computer's performance, and more specifically, the performance of your GPU (graphics processing unit).

FPS Drops

FPS (frames-per-second) drops are vastly different to Ping lag. The measure of frames-per-second indicates the frame rate which is visible while you are playing Tanki Online. Depending on your FPS, the game will either appear to run smoothly, or slowly with delayed/disjointed graphics. This is often the result of a lack of RAM or graphics processing power available to your computer. FPS drops are caused by a number of things:

1. Too many graphics settings are enabled.
2. You have too many programs open simultaneously.
3. Your computer doesn't have enough RAM (Random-access Memory).
4. Your computer has an inadequate graphics processing unit (GPU).

An easy way to determine if you are experiencing FPS drops is by looking at the counter in the bottom right corner of the screen. If the 'FPS' number is red, it means you have FPS issues. A higher FPS count will result in smoother, more responsive graphics.

Fixing FPS Drops
